Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shameem Rafik-Galea
Shameem Rafik-Galea (PhD) is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at the department of English, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, Universiti Putra Malaysia. She has a degree in Linguistics and an MA in TEFL from Southern Illinois University, USA, and a PhD in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from Leicester University, UK. her research is mainly in the area of Discourse studies, Language use and Acquisition. She has led and published a number of research on language in the workplace . She is presently conducting research on “Doctor- patient communication in General Practice” and “Veterinarian-client patient communication during illness consultations”. Her other research interest is in second language learning, and ELT materials design.
Dr. Mohamed bin Abu Bakar
Dr. Mohamed bin Abu Bakar was appointed as the Director of the English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC), Ministry of Education Malaysia on 2 February 2015. Prior to his current appointment, he was attached to the Curriculum Development Division for 15 years and was the Head of the English Unit from 2005 till 2010. In 2009, Dr Mohamed was an Education Consultant at the Ministry of Education, Oman and thereon as Deputy Director of ELTC till 2015. Dr. Mohamed is currently serving as a Governing Board Member of SEAMEO RELC, Singapore. As an ardent advocate of reaching out to communities through English language, Dr. Mohamed has initiated various outreach programmes especially in oral and reading skills in line with the various initiatives outlined in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025.
